I heard about this course a few years ago from a friend who was enrolled in it. I was a little heart broken when I was finally ready to apply 3 months ago and saw the course wasn't available anymore. But seeing this post has certainly made my day, very glad I googled it again :)
also keen on the cert III animal studies, the online flexibility sounds even better as I work for an RTO myself and don't get a lot of free time. will check back at the end of the year :)
Regards,

From Renee:

The original Certificate III in Native Animal Rehabilitation has been discontinued and will be replaced with a new native animal rehabilitation skill set which is part of the national training package. The resources are currently under development for the new course and I anticipate we will start up early next year.

The new skill set will not be exactly the same as the old Cert 3 course, but will still be available to study 100% online (i.e. flexibly). There may also be a Cert III Animal Studies online available soon after that. In the meantime, we are offering a Cert II Animal Studies which is part-time: 2 days on campus at Alex Hills and ½ day online (flexible).

Please keep an eye on our website (see below) for updates closer to the end of this year, and if you have any further questions feel free to contact me.

Regards,

Thanks for that Renee - we've had quite a few queries about the course (and it's good to see so many people interested in the welfare of our wildlife)

Hi Everyone,

The training package that this course was based on has been reviewed and upgraded, so we are currently in a transition phase. This means that we are not currently taking enrolments but expect this situation to change later this year.

In the new training package, the Native animal rehabilitation course has been officially recognised nationally as a skill set along with Euthanasia and Farriery. Here at MSIT, we intend to run the new skill set online as well as other qualifications from the new Animal Care and Management training package in the near future (they are currently under development).

Feel free to contact me in early July for more information on renee.chamberlin@deta.qld.gov.au

Kind regards,

Renee

Unfortunately it seems that this course is now canceled. I'm hoping a similar one will start elsewhere some time. By joining one of the wildlife carers groups you can participate in some of their own day-courses, and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary also runs a short course.
